DESCRIPTION:Linocut Printmaking (IN PERSON)\nMonday\, May 5\n6:00—8:00 PM\nProgram Room Newburyport Public Library\n\n\nIn this class students will be introduced to the printmaking process of linocut. The class will cover techniques in carving linoleum\, composition\, ink mixing\, and printing. At their own pace students will learn how to create a design and carve it in linoleum using carving tools. Students will learn how to ink and print their linoleum blocks by hand. In a relaxed and welcoming environment students will create many beautiful prints of their own as well as collaborate with their classmates. This class is suitable for beginners and can be adjusted for all levels of experience. \nAbout the Presenter: \nBrooke is a professional printmaker and painter. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and shows her work widely in New England\, New York\, and beyond. Brooke works in Studio 447 at Western Avenue Studios & Lofts in her current city of Lowell\, MA. She is currently represented by The Society of American Graphics Artists and Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition in New York. Brooke is a sponsored artist by Akua Inks and Speedball Art Products. She has eleven years of teaching experience and currently teaches art workshops and holds artist demos at several locations in MA\, NH\, and ME. \n  \nRegistration is required for this program and attendance is capped. Through educational programs featuring non-releasable raptors\, the organization connects the community with these birds up close. \n  \n \nThe Library has assistive listening technology for individuals with reduced ranges of hearing that sends sound directly to a hearing device. DESCRIPTION:Inspired Garden Design (VIRTUAL)\nTuesday\, May 13\n7:00—8:00 PM\nVirtual Program\n\n\nStunning gardens will be our classroom for emphasizing striking design essentials that elevate gardens from ordinary to sublime\, regardless of the hardiness zone or sunlight conditions. We will consider texture\, movement\, color\, repetition\, focal points\, vertical elements and more. \nAbout the Presenter: \nKerry Ann is a ‘passionate perennialist’ with over 25 years of hands-on experience. As a consultant\, designer\, and teacher\, she specializes in low-maintenance\, sustainable garden and landscape design\, incorporating perennials\, ornamental grasses\, flowering shrubs\, bulbs\, and no-fuss annuals. Kerry Ann has given lectures\, workshops and classes throughout New England\, across the United States and even in Canada. Since 2015 she has presented over 400 lectures to more than 40\,000 gardeners in 23 states and Canada. In 2014 she received the Gold Medal Award from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society recognizing individuals who have contributed to excellence in horticulture. Kerry Ann was specifically acknowledged for “Exceptional teaching and writing that increases public enjoyment and appreciation of horticulture.” Kerry Ann has consulted and designed gardens for thousands of clients all over the Northeast during the past 25 years. \nThis program is brought to you in collaboration with the Groton Public Library. Learn how three women fought for women’s rights but ended up fighting with each other. Professor Charlotte Gordon returns to Groton to discuss her newest research on these famous suffragettes. \nAbout the Presenter: \nA graduate of Harvard College\, Charlotte Gordon received a master’s degree in creative writing and a Ph.D. in history and literature from Boston University. She has been a frequent guest on NPR and the CBC\, including spots on Weekend Edition and The Current. From 1999-2002 she was Elie Wiesel’s teaching assistant at Boston University. Currently\, she is the Distinguished Professor of Humanities at Endicott College. \nThis program is brought to you in collaboration with the Groton Public Library.
